White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L Armentrout

This is the first book in the Dark Elements series

Layla just wants to fit in at school and go on a date with Zayne, whom she’s crushed on since forever. Trouble is, Zayne treats Layla as a sister – and Layla is a held demon, half gargoyle with abilities no one else possesses. And even though Xayne is a Warden, part of the race of gargoyles tasked with keeping humanity safe, Layla’s kiss will kill anything with a soul – including him.

Then she meets Roth – a demon who claims to know her secrets. Though Layla knows she should stay away, it’s tough when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue. Trusting Roth could ruin her chances with Zayne but as Layla discovers she’s the reason for a violent demon uprising, kissing the enemy suddenly pales in comparison to the looming end of the world.

After reading From Blood and Ash and A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire I knew I wanted to read more of Jennifer’s books. I did pick up Storm and Fury but saw it was a spin off so decided to read The Dark Elements series first to better understand the world.

This is my first time really reading a paranormal romance but I enjoyed the book. I am a big Supernatural fan so to read a story that has demons in it I thought I would enjoy it.

Layla was such an interesting character to me. With her being half demon and half gargoyle but putting on the front of being human to her friends Sam and Stacey was a interesting element to the story.

I loved the way that all the players in the story was introduced especially Zayne and Roth. Zayne is a gargoyle and warden where Roth is an upper level demon. I must admit I am Team Roth. The love triangle between the three of them is definitely interesting and I am interested to see where it goes in the next one.

Overall I enjoyed White Hot Kiss and I am looking forward to reading the next books in the series.
