Six

From Tudor Queens to Pop Princesses, the six wives of Henry VIII take to the mic to tell their tales, remixing 500 years of historical heartbreak into a 75 minute celebration of 21st century girl power.

Show creators Lucy Moss and Toby Marlow wrote the show for an university assignment which then made its debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017. Since its debut, the show has performances in the Arts Theatre, UK Tour, Australian show, North American Tour, performances on the Norwegian Cruise Line and a Broadway show. The London show as also performance on Morning Breakfast Television shows and at West End Live.

The six fabulous queens are played by Cloe Zuel, Kala Gare, Loren Hunter, Kiana Daniele, Courtney Monsma, Vidya Maken, with them portraying Aragon, Boleyn, Seymour, Cleves, Howard and Parr respectively. The show also amazing swings Ella Burns, Karis Oka and Shannen Alyce Quan who were all able to make their debut performance as their respective queens throughout the Sydney season

The six Queens costumes are all different from each other in not just colour but styles. Not just for the main cast but the swings have their own costume colours that are adapted depending on the Queen they are performing.

There is not much set for the show as it is set as a pop concert however there is a throne for Cleves as well as other props that are used in one song. With the show being portrayed as a concert there were parts where it was encouraged to scream and respond to the queens which was fun.

Six’s soundtrack is amazing. The songs are perfect for each Queen and the actresses really put themselves in the position of the Queen they are portraying. I can usually pick my favourite song from a musical but I love all the songs and cant pick just one.

My favourite part of the musical would have to be the very last song, the megasix. It was great as it allowed you to feel like you were at a concert not seeing a musical.

Overall I really enjoyed Six. I have been waiting since I saw the London cast perform at West End Live 2018 on Youtube to see the show. I will definitely see Six again and again.
