The Wizard of Oz is a new musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and is faithful to the beloved story of Dorothy’s journey to Oz.
Seeing the beloved story being performed on stage was a joy to see. Being transport from Kansas to the World of Oz with the use of the visual projections was incredible to see.
From the moment the lights went off and Samantha Dodemaide (Dorothy) sang Somewhere over the Rainbow I was transported to Oz.
The sets of both Kansas and Oz were incredible. You felt that you were actually there. The monochrome of the Kansas set was balanced perfectly with the vibrant Oz set.
The cast I felt were perfect for their roles. Samantha Dodemaide (Dorothy), Jemma Rix (Wicked Witch of the West), Lucy Durack (Glinda), Anthony Warlow (Wizard) Eli Cooper (Scarecrow), Alex Rathgeber (Tin Man) and John Xintavelonis (Lion). It was great to see Durack and Rix back in the land of Oz. The ensemble brought life to the munchkins and the Emerald City.
The costumes were beautifully done. Glinda’s dress was stunning and what you envisioned for Glinda’s dress. I really liked the different dresses that Rix had throughout the show as well.
Overall I really enjoyed Wizard of Oz and would definitely see it again. Seeing this cast bring the Wizard of Oz to life on stage was amazing and I was so happy to be able to see the show. It shows that there is no place like home.
